The Prix d’Amérique Legend Race, the first Final of the Prix d’Amérique Races ZEturf competition, is the most publicized trotter race in the world. Winning it is the dream of any driver, trainer, breeder or owner. It is the culmination of an entire career, but also a very difficult trophy to win. Face Time Bourbon, which promises to be the big favorite for the 2022 edition, has already won this Group I twice. Will he succeed the hat-trick on Sunday January 30? Which legends achieved this real feat before him? They are only four.
Uranie
This chestnut was the first big star in the history of trotting races. She moved the crowds with each of her appearances on a racetrack. Uranie won the Prix d’Amérique Legend Race in 1926, 1927 and 1928. She even came close to finishing four since she finished second in 1930. She continues to shine today through her descendants, being the mother of the two great stallions Kairos and Ogaden.
Roquépine
She is precisely a great-granddaughter of Uranie. Her three successes in the Sulky World Championship date back to 1966, 1967 and 1968. She has also distinguished herself all over the world, notably in the United States, Italy and Sweden, and her total of victories amounts to 46. Like Uranie, she was a remarkable breeder.
Bellino II
This champion nicknamed “the steamroller” triumphed in the most beautiful events at the Sulky and the Etrier. He won the Prix d’Amérique Legend Race in 1975, 1976 and 1977, for a total of 55 victories in his magnificent career.
Ourasi
Ourasi is quite simply the most popular and greatest champion in the history of trotting. His statue sits proudly at the Hippodrome Paris-Vincennes, not far from the track. He did not win three Legend Race Prix d’Amérique, but four! It was in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1990 and he is the only one to have signed this shot of four. His third place in 1989 made the whole of France cry!
